Long before Instagram and TikTok could spark rumours with a single photo and DeuxMoi was the all-knowing oracle of celebrity secrets, there was only paparazzi and bi-weekly print titles. As actress Jessica Szohr has recalled in a new interview, the new-found fame from Gossip Girl was enough to keep many of her relationships as secret as possible.
Speaking on the Chicks in the Office podcast this week, the series alum addressed her notoriously private 2008 relationship with co-star Ed Westwick. Remember when they dated? Vaguely? We suspect that is exactly what they wanted.
“A lot of us did date and I remember when Ed and I started dating, we wanted to keep it super private,” Szohr told the outlet on filming Gossip Girl. “A couple months in—we had been together for quite a bit before it came out—we were going to go to a New York Knicks game and we went back and forth.”
She continued, “Either we are going to live this private life and never leave our apartment, or we do it and we just keep our s**t as private as we can. It was either you stay home—and we were people who liked going to sporting events and concerts and plays and stuff. After a couple of months, it got old. We need[ed] to leave.”
Szohr and Westwick split in 2010 before continuing an on-again off-again style romance for several more years. The Shameless actress welcomed her first daughter with longtime boyfriend Brad Richardson in early 2021. Westwick was last romantically linked to Tamara Francesconi before they split in September 2021.
The actor was accused of sexual assault by three women in November 2017. He staunchly denied the allegations with all charges dropped in 2018 due to insufficient evidence. At the time Szohr said she was “shocked” by the reports but defended her ex-beau.
