Gigi Hadid is getting into the vacation spirit with some bold new body art. While some like to ease into ink, the model has dived straight into the deep end with a large tattoo that covers her entire hip.

In some beachside snaps posted to Instagram from her current Island girls’ trip, Hadid can be seen posing with salty hair tousled to the side while lounging on a daybed. Wearing a stringy printed bikini from Candice Swanepoel‘s brand Tropic of C with an electric choker and pendant by J’aime, the 28-year-old looked straight out of a summer swimwear campaign.

In one photo, she lies down on her side, showing off a large faded tattoo of a dragon—a fitting choice given she’s still rocking her Targaryen-blonde hue. She captioned the photo, “mornin! 🐉.”

But if you thought the move was uncharacteristic for the model, who tends to keep her beauty relatively low-key, you’re onto something, as not all is as it seems. Posting to her Stories, she later revealed the behind-the-scenes process for the art, revealing it to be a temporary tattoo.

Reposting a photo shared by her friend, Alana O’Herlihy, Hadid showed off a photo of herself in a bright yellow bikini with the water-transfer piece freshly applied.

Though she may not be going for a massive thigh body art anytime soon, the Guest In Residence founder does have ‘Khai‘, her daughter’s name, tattooed in Arabic lettering on the inside of her elbow. Hadid’s ex and Khai’s father, Zayn Malik, also has a matching tattoo on his wrist.

The former couple’s choice to both name their daughter an Arabic name—Khai means ‘chosen one’—and to get tattoos in the language was a sweet homage to Hadid’s Palestinian background and Malik’s Islamic upbringing.
