Say what you will about celebrity relationships, but there’s no denying Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik are onto a good thing. Despite being two of the most famous young people in both the fashion and music industries and having to deal with immense interest in their personal lives, the pair have always managed to come back to each other.
Since giving birth to her first child in September 2020, Hadid has kept a low-profile, as has Malik, opting to spend as much time as possible with their daughter, Khai. In fact, they’re so committed to their newborn that they recently debuted matching tattoos in her honour.
On February 4, Hadid opened up about her post-pregnancy beauty routine in a video interview. During the clip, the 25-year-old raised her hand to blend her foundation and viewers noticed a brown, fine line tattoo on her inner bicep, just above her elbow crease.
Fans quickly pointed out that the model’s new ink resembles a similar one on Malik’s wrist, both of which, according to People, is of their daughter’s name, خاي (Khai), in Arabic lettering. The couple’s choice to both name their daughter an Arabic name – Khai means ‘chosen one’ – and to get tattoos in the language pays homage to Hadid’s Palestinian background and Malik’s Islamic upbringing.

After a lot of speculation that the couple were planning on revealing their daughter’s face and name on a magazine cover, Hadid ended up simply adding it to her Instagram bio in January. “Khai’s mom,” it reads.
Though Khai was absent from her recent photoshoot, Hadid did open up about her experience with natural childbirth. “There definitely was a point where I was like, ‘I wonder what it would be like with an epidural, how it would be different,’” she said in a recent interview. “My midwife looked at me and was like, ‘You’re doing it. No one can help you. You’re past the point of the epidural anyway, so you’d be pushing exactly the same way in a hospital bed.’”
While Hadid proudly described herself as an “animal woman” during the 14-hour labour, she said Malik felt “helpless” watching her in so much pain.
“You feel so helpless to see the person you love in pain,’” Hadid recalled. “I know my mum and Zayn and Bella were proud of me, but at certain points, I saw each of them in terror. Afterward, Z and I looked at each other and were like, We can have some time before we do that again.”
