Emily Ratajkowski’s former lover, comedian Eric Andre, has come clean on what really happened when he posted that image on Instagram on February 14.
The pair were hanging out and spotted many times in and around the streets of Manhattan and while the relationship has since ended, Andre told Rolling Stone it was a definitely a fun time.
“Emily popped up and took that picture. I was really in the moment: I was drinking wine, and she started dying laughing, and she was like, ‘I have to take a picture of this,’” 39-year-old Andre told Rolling Stone. “She took the picture, we both started cracking up, and she was like, “This is iconic” — she kept saying “iconic.” We both agreed this was a beautiful image that we had to share with the world.
“It was one of those things,” the host of the Eric Andre Show continued. “I think that’s what art is about. Art is not intellectual; it’s primal. It has to speak to your hormones as much as it speaks to your mind. The beauty of that was the spontaneity. Spontaneity and capturing happy accidents are what art is all about.”
When probed on why online commentators seemed to be confused by the pairing, Andre reminded the journalist – and everybody playing at home – that women like funny men.
“I’m ugly. I looked like Steve Urkel for the first 20 years of my life,” he jokes. “I think that people think attraction is only based on physical appearance, but beauty is only skin-deep. Colin [Jost] is married to Scarlett Johansson, and [John] Mulaney is married to Olivia Munn, so you’d think comedy … works.”
Three days after Andre posted the picture to Instagram, Ratajkowski – who has also dated funny man Pete Davidson – took to TikTok and implied she had ended her situationship. Many speculated this was with Andre – and many thought she might be annoyed he posted the picture.

But if Andre’s words are to be believed, the former beaus seem to be fine.
