If there was one wardrobe item that dominated the trend discourse last year, it was transparent shoes.

For whatever reason, the nostalgic allure of jelly shoes took form in chic ballet flats, and Mary Janes rendered in PVC or mesh netting like the iconic ALAÏA flats, dominated street style and runways. And though many took great issue with seeing everyone’s toes in such an unnatural way, the trend is clearly not slowing down in 2024—at least if its celebrity endorsers are anything to go by. The latest transparent shoe backer? Emily Ratajkowski.

While sharing snaps from her mid-winter vacation, the model and author debuted a controversial look with her followers. Ratajkowski, who has never shied away from showing a bit of skin, posted a photo of herself posing in a grey silk halter-neck top and a low-rise tiger print pencil skirt that was accessorised with a chunky pendant necklace and red patent evening bag. While everything she does gets a fair share of comments, many were too distracted by her choice of shoes.

Showing off her red pedicure, the My Body author shared a closer look at her party shoes.

Far from the usual footwear one would typically pack on a girls’ beach tip, Ratajkowski opted for transparent flats by The Row. The ‘Boheme’ Mary Jane ballet flats, which retail for about $1580, are made of clear PVC and white leather, resembling a modern glass slipper.
