Give her two cameo roles and Dua Lipa will deliver a trifecta of red-carpet triumphs. The songstress cemented her status as a burgeoning featured extra in her role as ‘Mermaid Barbie’ in the recent silicone blockbuster, in turn emulating main character energy at the film’s premiere in custom Bottega and her co-designed collection with Versace.

Now, after making her first rounds on the award season circuit, Lipa has completed her theatrical red carpet hat trick for the opening night of her upcoming espionage comedy, Argylle, in London. (No need to criticise the pop supernova for her constant travels this time, Lipa’s stayed in her hometown for once).

Overnight, the 28-year-old descended on the Odeon Luxe theatre in Leicester Square with her co-stars Henry Cavill (The Witcher, Man Of Steel), Bryce Dallas Howard (Jurassic Park, Black Mirror) and Chip. The latter is the Scottish Fold ‘nepo kitten’ owned by supermodel Claudia Schiffer who makes their film debut in this role, but already boasts brand deals and an illustrated book based on their life. While Chip and Schiffers’ matching argyle print ensembles certainly stole the show—with the 90s style savant opting for new-season Versace—it was truly Lipa’s moment in the spotlight.

For the occasion, the “Houdini” songstress wore a custom Gucci gown designed by new creative director, Sabato De Sarno. The deep plum gown featured a strapless silhouette, with a body-conscious fit that enclosed her figure in sparkling maroon sequins. A spy in shining Gucci, indeed.

Perhaps referencing the satirical secret agent cult-classic Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me, Lipa opted for unfussy, lived-in crinkle wave locks. She paired her sensual ensemble with sultry eye makeup, Cartier jewellery and an unfussy nude manicure.

Elsewhere across the red carpet, her scene partner John Cena was questioned about their back-to-back billing in both Barbie and Aryglle after Lipa admitted the former wrestler was her “emotional support actor”. “My takeaway from that comment, which I’m very grateful for, is we shot this before Barbie, so this was her first chance to be on-screen. She was vulnerable enough to admit she was nervous,” he admitted.

Meanwhile, I’m in front of Dua Lipa, Matthew Vaughn, and Henry Cavill, and I’m going, ‘You’re not alone! I’m nervous as well.’ So we began to share that,” Cena continued. “We’re both touring live performers, so we had some conversations about that and life on the road, and it just kind of spawned from there.” Lipa will return to the big screen in Argylle. Read between the lies from February 1st, with the film launching into Australian theatres next month.
