Dua Lipa has delivered a masterclass in perfecting your Critics Choice Awards debut ensemble at the 29th iteration of the annual ceremony. It’s rare for a star of this magnitude to find industry events they’ve not previously attended. So, to mark the occasion, the multi-hyphenate pop supernova has enshrined her place in Critics Choice Awards fashion history with an inferno of sartorial triumph.
For the occasion Lipa has adorned a custom crimson ensemble from Prada, continuing the adept red carpet reign she began last week at the 81st Golden Globes award in a bespoke Schiaparelli gown. The crimson column gown featured a body-sculpting silhouette and delicious pleating that mimicked the hypnotic movement of ocean waves—a fitting dress given Lipa made her on-screen appearance as “Mermaid Barbie”. Lipa paired her fiery ensemble with mesmerising Tiffany & Co. earrings from the luxuriate jeweller’s Schlumberger collection.
Continuing the maritime motif, Lipa styled her auburn hair into a half-up style, swooping her side bangs into a defined curl. On the beauty front, Lipa lent into the performance by utilising the sultry ‘siren eye’ technique to enhance her complexion.
While Lipa isn’t being celebrated for her cameo performance this evening, she has received a nomination for chart-topping disco single, “Dance The Night” from the Barbie movie. The Greta Gerwig-directed production will continue to make history at this evening’s soirée with the film collecting 18 nominations across leading categories—the most in Critics Choice Awards history.
The momentous accolade follows a box office smashing 2023, with Barbie officially becoming the highest-grossing film of the year, collecting USD $1.446 billion since its release in late July. Earlier this week, Barbie was on the receiving end of a sexist joke by Golden Globes host Jo Koy in which the film was labelled “on a plastic doll with big boobies”. But here on the red carpet, it’s apparent the cast is having the last laugh, with Lipa proving that no amount of criticism can stop them from painting the town red. (Or pink!)
