When onlookers first noticed that Victoria Beckham’s “DB” wrist tattoo had been removed, the rumor mill lit up with speculation that the fashion designer and former Spice Girl was leaving her husband of 23 years, famed soccer player David Beckham.

The style icon discussed her tattoo removal with Hoda Kotb during an appearance on Today on Thursday. “You know, I had these tattoos a long, long time ago and they just weren’t particularly delicate,” Beckham explained with a laugh. “My husband has so many gorgeous tattoos and the children do, and they’re very fine, and they’ve have them created by the most phenomenal artists.”

She added, “But mine were just a little bit thick, and they were bleeding a little bit, and just not looking as pretty.” Beckham detailed that with time, the ink had faded to a blueish color.

“They just didn’t look so nice,” she said. “So, it doesn’t mean anything more than that. I think that the media started to speculate, ‘Was I leaving my husband?’ No, I was just a bit sick of the tattoo, it’s as simple as that.”

With 23 years of marriage under their belt, the Beckhams share four children together, Brooklyn, 23, Romeo, 20, Cruz, 17, and Harper, 11.

Kotb noted that their marriage must be a wonderful example for their eldest son, who has just begun his married life. Brooklyn wed Nicola Peltz Beckham in a lavish April ceremony at her family’s Palm Beach oceanfront estate in Florida.

In an interview with GRAZIA USA, Beckham said, “It’s a big deal, your child getting married. I was very emotional. David’s speech was beautiful.” She went on, “It seems like yesterday that David was holding Brooklyn in his little purple cowboy hat and purple outfit at our wedding, and now our baby is married.”

Beckham continued, “Claudia and Nelson [Peltz] have also been married a long time, so Brooklyn and Nicola have both seen that growing up. All of us are there to support them.”
