Every celeb’s red carpet prep looks different. Some document the process of putting on face masks or getting luxe facials, while others change things up entirely with an unexpected activity. Take Tracee Ellis Ross’s, for example. The Black-ish star prepped for the socially-distanced 2020 People’s Choice Awards by having a glamorous photoshoot in her empty bathtub.
Naturally, the shoot was documented on social media ahead of the awards show on Sunday, November 15. Ross posed for the camera wearing a striped, sparkly jumpsuit paired with pink heels. For accessories, she wore multicolored feathers in her hair. “Taking my fashion bath for tonight’s festivities …a day worth sparkles and feathers,” Ross writes in the Instagram slideshow’s accompanying caption. Indeed, it was a celebratory day because Diana Ross’s daughter took home the People’s Choice Award for Fashion Icon of 2020.
Ross’s bathtub look was epic, but so were the two outfits she wore for the awards show, which took place at The Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California. For the red carpet, she stunned in a brown pantsuit by Italian fashion house Schiaparelli and Christian Louboutin heels. Our favorite part about the look was how she matched her suit’s gold buttons to her statement earrings.
To accept her Fashion Award from Tyler the Creator, she changed into a high-low Alexander McQueen gown, which she teamed with thigh-high black leather boots. She completed the black-and-white ensemble with earrings by Brazilian-born jewelry designer Ana Khouri.
The star’s acceptance speech was touching, as she thanked those who impacted her style: fashion designers, stylists, and her mother. “Obviously I have to thank the icon herself, my mom,” Ross says onstage. “Not only for great parenting and not acquiescing to my many whimsical and outrageous requests — and tantrums, if I’m being honest — but also her example, her epic closet and her glamour that introduced me to the power of fashion.”
