Hailey Bieber might have started out as a nepo baby teenager, walking red carpets with father Stephen Baldwin — but even before the model and Rhode founder married pop sensation Justin Bieber, she was carving space in the fashion world thanks to her signature off-duty style and seriously good taste in couture.
Bieber has come a long way since those initial red carpet days of her youth, though. Take a walk down memory lane and watch Hailey Bieber’s style evolution over the years.
2013

A 17-year-old Hailey Bieber (then Baldwin) walks the red carpet for the After Earth premiere, wearing the footwear every woman coveted at the time — a pair of platform, patent-nude Christian Louboutin heels.
2014

Bieber rose to fame thanks to some celebrity besties like the Jenner sisters. In 2014, she stepped out with Kylie Jenner in New York in what was become a Hailey Bieber trademark for several years — black leather.

This was the beginning of Bieber’s off-duty style, which has evolved over the years but has always been a mainstay in celebrity style galleries. The black leather pants are back, teamed with Chelsea boots, a denim shirt and beanie might feel a little dated now, but back in 2014 we all took notes.
2015

By 2015 Hailey Bieber was walking runways for fashion houses and attending fashion weeks world-over. Here, she arrived at the Fendi flagship boutique in N.Y.C., giving a hint of the Bieber style we know today — sleek and elegant.

Once again with BFF Kylie Jenner, Hailey Bieber continued her love of a leather statement piece, as well as her mid-2010s passion for red lipstick.

For a little while in 2015, Bieber went brunette — like, chocolate brunette, rich and glossy. It looked incredible, but she quickly returned to blonde. This was Bieber’s first attendance at the Met Gala — a moment for the pewter Saint Laurent Tributes.

By September Hailey Bieber was back to blonde and leaning in hard to a rock chic aesthetic, alongside Kendall Jenner. This was also the year, by the way, when they went on the infamous mini-break over summer.
2016

2016 was the year Bieber really honed her personal style — here she attends the DKNY 2016 fashion week show in New York, and honestly this classic suit wouldn’t be out of place in her current wardrobe. Also happening at this moment in time? Controversy with Justin Bieber, who unfollowed Hailey in August 2016 and was briefly linked to Sofia Richie.

2016 was also the year Bieber started to embrace luxe athleisure as an off-duty fashion option, here in tights, a hoodie and sports jacket. Is this where her hoodie penchant began, and not in Justin Bieber’s wardrobe as we all thought?

Bieber leveled up majorly for the 2016 Met Gala, wearing custom Tommy Hilfiger.
2017

For the 2017 MTV VMAs, Bieber chose a sequin jumpsuit — but its her makeup look we’re really observing. Her signature no-makeup makeup aesthetic really started to become the norm around 2017 for the star.
2018

By early 2018 Hailey Bieber was very much styling herself in the way she’s now known for — a blend of street style athleisure and minimalist elegance. The leather with the sneakers and the hoodie with the chic overcoat? This is classic Hailey.

Hailey Bieber also became a mainstay on red carpets in 2018, attending the Vanity Fair Oscars afterparty here in Versace and ’60s-throwback hair and makeup.

By late-2018 the model was not just back on with Justin Bieber, but engaged — and her name went from pretty famous to household-level. Suddenly, all eyes were on her style and Hailey Bieber leaned in, meticulously pulling together her high-low fits for events, like this beige-on-beige suit moment.
2019

Newly married and very much one of the most famous people in the world, Bieber has always loved an oversized look but really adopted it regularly through 2019 as she made her name in the style stakes. Here, she steps out in Paris wearing Matthew Adams Dolan and Jimmy Choo heels.

A dress that truly broke the internet, Hailey Bieber’s Alexander Wang gown for the 2019 Met Gala (complete with built-in thong) was probably the most memorable look from the Camp-themed event.

In her down-time, Bieber led the charge for loungewear-as-fashion in this cashmere set.
2020

Pre-pandemic, Bieber moved away from leather pants and toward denim — although her love of the material still remained, just in outerwear like this incredible Staud coat.

Justin and Hailey Bieber have become known for their red carpet couple looks — here attending his Seasons YouTube premiere in co-ordinated California-glitz fits (her dress was Zuhair Murad).

For the 2020 Vanity Fair Oscars party, Bieber chose a lingerie-inspired Versace gown dotted with Swarovski crystals, and Saint Laurent heels.

Another classic look from Hailey Bieber and one many fans of her style remember well was this TRE by Natalie Ratabesi suit paired with a Bottega Veneta shoulder bag and boots by Casadei, worn in Paris.
2021

2021 saw Hailey Bieber slowly shift from her California-blonde hair toward a more grown-out blonde with hand painted highlights. It was also a time where the model played with structure for her off-duty fashion looks, like this Magda Butrym blazer (a 2021 favorite for Bieber, who wore several of the designers pieces that year).

For the 2021 Met Gala the Biebers walked the red carpet together in matching black ensembles — Hailey in Saint Laurent, Justin in his label, Drew House. The event was tinged with drama however when onlookers started chanting “Selena” at the couple. Hailey later said it was “disrespectful” and upset her.

By late-2021 the model and beauty brand founder was adopting oversized denim and even slowly introducing lower waistlines before we ever were.

Another Bieber couple-dressing moment we all remember well — this time with complete color coordination.
2022

Low-rise boyfriend jeans and Hailey Bieber, a match made in heaven. The star teamed hers with Vans and a baby tee in early 2022, and made a return to brunette (well, blonde-brunette).

If we could describe Bieber’s 2022 style, it would be an amalgamation of ’90s It-couple John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette. Above, Bieber’s oversized, power shoulder coat by Saint Laurent is giving JFK Jr.

Then, here in Paris, Bieber emulates Carolyn Bessette’s signature N.Y.C. aesthetic of loose denim, neutrals and a classic white tee. Even the elegant gold jewelry feels straight out of Bessette’s fashion rulebook.
2023

2023 is Hailey Bieber’s year of the microskirt — here at Milan Fashion Week the model wore a Moncler Genius x Alyx Fraxinus puffer vest layered over a long-sleeved top, paired with a WARDROBE.NYC cargo micro mini skirt and Magda Butrym shoes decorated with floral corsages. Justin Bieber chose an electric blue Moncler puffer and oversized jeans.

See? We told you it’s her year of the microskirt. Hailey Bieber debuted a bob in New York in early 2023, stepping out in this pleated mini teamed with the Bottega Veneta Cassette Bag and Proenza Schouler loafers.
