It’s hard to pinpoint the exact sartorial origins of the naked dress. Chalk it up to Cher’s barely-there Bob Mackie dresses at both the Met Gala in 1974 and the Oscars in 1988—and its 2022 revival surely comes courtesy of a spate of appearances from Emily Ratajkowski and Kendall Jenner. The latest to add to the long line of diaphanous dressing is Sienna Miller.
The 42-year-old American-British actress attended the lavish 25th birthday bash of London socialite Lady Lola Crichton-Stuart (aka Lola Bute) at the weekend in a beautifully sheer, floor-length Annie’s Ibiza number. A rival to her viral whipped meringue Schiaparelli two-piece, Miller (who gave birth to her second daughter just four months ago) opted to wear a nude body suit underneath the delicately embellished gown. Its cobwebbed pattern aptly set against her signature tousled waves.
Miller joined fellow sheer-dressed it-girl Camille Charrière who also wore an Annie’s Ibiza creation—a peach number, to be exact. Take a look, the party looks like it’s straight out of a scene from Saltburn.
But it’s not only Miller’s sartorial exploits that crown her the ultimate it-girl. She welcomed her youngest daughter to the world earlier this year with boyfriend Oli Green, 27. For the most part, people were ecstatic for Miller. Elsewhere, it was a different story, and it was Miller’s response to that cohort of people that won over many more hearts.
“I think people are comfortable with a way of living that has existed for many years which is very misogynistic and patriarchal [when it comes to] me being in a relationship with a younger person,” Miller told Vogue. “Or being pregnant over the age of 40 and that’s [considered] irresponsible…is such double standards. It’s absurd.
“I was fortunate. I wasn’t necessarily trying to get pregnant. This happened as a total surprise and biologically it was something my body was able to do. And I find that judgement so one-sided and it’s so sad.”
As we hit publish on this story, sources are claiming that British model Alexa Chung is engaged to Miller’s ex-fiancé and father of her 11-year-old daughter, Marlowe, Tom Sturridge. The foursome are said to have a wonderful relationship with each other.
“Alexa has confirmed to her friends that she is indeed engaged to Tom and she is over the moon,” a source tells The Sun. “She is in a great place and seems completely head over heels for him. They’re a great match. They have been hard at work planning a wedding with all of their close pals there. It won’t be a massive over the top affair, but a smaller, classier and cooler bash.”
