To pick one defining moment from Carrie Bradshaw’s illustrious wardrobe would be but impossible. No such fictional character captured an entire generation – and its fashion Zeitgeist – more than Mrs Big; Bradshaw’s bold, daring fashion choices both informing us and challenging us for almost a decade (and to this day). Of course, Samantha, Charlotte and Miranda also shaped the direction of fashion, but it was Bradshaw who truly steered the sartorial ship (under the guidance of Sex and the City stylist, Patricia Field). But if we were to pick one moment, for the sake of this story, it’s the “naked dress”: that slinky, slippery, flesh-coloured DKNY slip which soon became known as the “naked dress”, a fashion phenomenon popularised by Bradshaw (and New York busses which famously bore images of Bradshaw in the dress). And with the ’90s revival still alive and kicking, the “naked dress” has seen many iterations as of late, with Kendall Jenner the latest celebrity to take the trend for a spin.

In Miami for Art Basel (along with Bella Hadid), Jenner went for dinner at Italian restaurant Cipriani in her version of the “naked dress”, David Koma’s Embellished Stretch-Crêpe Dress which she paired with Amina Muaddi’s iconic Begum PVC pumps and Ellie Vail Londyn earrings. Unlike Bradshaw’s, which was entirely minimal, Jenner’s nude slip-style dress had a festive kick, a string of shimmering beads along the hem and in place of shoulder straps.

You can shop the exact David Koma dress here, or, find your own version of the “naked dress”, which has seen many expressions recently as slip dresses and ’90s-inflected fashion continues to dominate designer circles. But to truly get you in the festive spirit, look for ones that feature a little razzle-dazzle like Kendall Jenner and deck yourself in a little fashion tinsel. It is party season, after all. Get naked and sparkly.
