As we head into spring, it’s time to chat about warm weather pieces. Today I want to discuss the short. Shorts have high-fashion’s seal of approval thanks to the micro moment at Miu Miu and Loewe and the denim pairs at Givenchy. Shorts are a staple in spring and summer looks but they can also be trendy when designed with the right elements. (Personally, I love a Bermuda short moment.) With so many different short styles to choose from this season, I’m here to break down the various categories and offer some styling tips on how to wear them. Some, like your classic denim cutoffs, are relatively easy to style while others, like a micro short or hot pant, takes some mixing and matching for the right feel. Trade in your summer dresses and skirts for the cute shorts ahead.
Denim Shorts
Denim shorts are an all-American classic and will never go out of style due to their effortless and easy-to-wear nature. When the temperatures rise, it’s time to swap your jeans for your favorite denim cutoffs.
Bermuda Shorts
The Bermuda short or trouser short isn’t just for your modest mom these days. Designers have freshened things up by showing these shorts in all different colors, styles and fabrics. For a super chic summertime look try a “short suit” which consists of trouser shorts and a blazer.
Micro-Shorts
Micro-shorts, mini-shorts, hot pants, whatever you want to call them, the teeny-tiny style is having a major moment thanks to the micro shorts at Miu Miu and the “no pants” look at Loewe. Dare to be different and try one of the trickiest trends of the season.
Cargo Shorts
Forget everything you know about the cargo short…I mean it. They aren’t just for New Balance-wearing dads. The utilitarian style got a fabulous update courtesy of the Miu Miu runway. Brands are reimagining the cargo shorts in all different lengths and tactical styles using leather, hardware and more.
