Apparently Selena Gomez has been taking tips from Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, because her new video for ‘999’ featuring Camilo, has her wearing wigs that are “red and yellow and green and brown and scarlet and black and ochre and peach and ruby and olive and violet and fawn.” Okay, maybe not to that extent, but fans are flipping out over the ombre purple wig she rocks in the video.
Gomez has never shied away from changing her hair color — she’s dabbled in pink tones here and there — but we’ve never seen her embrace such bold shades before. The video features both Gomez and Camilo exploring a technicolor expanse, so the wigs have to match. Multi-hyphenate Gomez starts out the video wearing a wig with dark ashy purple roots that blend seamlessly into a light lilac shade in the mid-length, to a vivid rich violet at the end, blending perfectly with the bright purple floor-length gown she rocks in the video. This specific shade of purple can only be described as the kind of hair color that takes weeks to acquire if you were to try it on yourself. As the video goes on, the purple is swapped out for a blue wig that is both aqua and turquoise, and next for a bright yellow bob.
While we’re not writing Selena Gomez and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamwig quite yet, we welcome and celebrate change, even if it is brief. Whether it’s aquamarine, purple, rose, gold, mauve, ochre, or mustard yellow — it’s pretty clear that unlike most of us, Selena Gomez can wear pretty much any color in any shade or cut, and that makes us green with envy. And yeah, she probably has an “envy green” wig and looks great in it — proving my point, yet again.
