Selena Gomez has been in the Hollywood spotlight since she was a teenager on Disney series The Wizards of Waverly Place, so naturally her dating history is filled with famous relationships and plenty of controversy (although often unwarranted).
For some reason, who Selena Gomez is dating has always been a hugely popular topic on the internet. We still talk about her relationship with Justin Bieber, even though it’s been years since they broke up, and Bieber has been happily married to Hailey Bieber since 2019.
Since that break up (back in 2018), Gomez has gone on to date (well, rumored to date) several other famous Hollywood men including The Weeknd, Orlando Bloom and Taylor Lautner. Most recently, Selena Gomez sent the internet into a spin after being spotted kissing Gigi Hadid’s ex-boyfriend Zayn Malik. While we wait to see if their relationship is official (or just a casual date), let’s take a look back at Selena Gomez’s dating history.
Nick Jonas: 2008

Selena Gomez’s first public relationship was with teenage heartthrob Nick Jonas back in 2008. At the time, tabloids reported that the “Lose You to Love Me” singer was in the middle of a heated feud with Miley Cyrus, who also notably dated Nick Jonas during the late ’00s.
Speaking to W Magazine in 2016, Gomez was quick to shut down those rumors. “We never feuded. We both liked the same guy when we were 16. It was just a Hilary Duff–Lindsay Lohan thing: ‘Oh, my God, we like the same boy!’ We are now completely settled in our own lives.”
Gomez’s relationship with Nick Jonas is actually how she met Taylor Swift. At the time, Swift was dating Nick’s brother Joe. Nick recalled their double date at the time on BBC Radio 1. “We were in Central Park and we were very private about our relationship, so I walked about 20 feet away from her. Even though they were taking pictures of us and obviously we were there together it was like, ‘It would be better if we stand about 25 feet apart.’ So it ruined her Central Park experience, so her and Taylor Swift, who was dating my brother Joe walked 25 feet behind us as we walked through the park by ourselves.”
Taylor Lautner: 2009

In 2009, Selena Gomez was in Vancouver filming Ramona and Beezus. At the same time, Taylor Lautner was in town filming Twilight: New Moon.
The two met and sparks flew, but they quickly fizzled. Speaking to Seventeen, Gomez confirmed their split, saying the media scrutiny was too much. “We would go out to lunch and dinner, but I knew he had paparazzi following him, and I had paparazzi following me. People were getting a little crazy about us.”
Interestingly, Gomez’s bestie Taylor Swift also dated Taylor Lautner in 2009 – but it clearly didn’t come between their friendship.
Justin Bieber: 2010 – 2014

Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber were a very on/off couple, so expect to see his name pop up in this list more than once. Their first four years together were pretty uneventful, though. They met via Bieber’s then-manager Scooter Braun introduced them, after Bieber said Selena Gomez was his celebrity crush.
At first brushing off rumors they were dating by saying they were just friends, the couple went official in early 2011, when paparazzi snapped them kissing on a yacht in St. Lucia. They attended the 2011 Vanity Fair Oscar party together, and then famously kissed at the 2011 Billboard Music Awards.
The couple broke up briefly at the end of 2012, and got back together again in April 2013.
The couple then officially split up in late-2014, and the following year Bieber spoke to Complex about their relationship, saying, “I moved in with my girlfriend when I was 18. Started my own life with her. It was a marriage kind of thing. Living with a girl, it was just too much at that age. But we were so in love. Nothing else mattered. We were all about each other. But when it’s like that and you get your value from that, people will always disappoint you.”
Orlando Bloom: 2014

Right after her split with Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez was linked to Orlando Bloom. Whether they officially dated or not – the pair were simply spotted spending time together in L.A. – things fizzled quickly.
Zedd: 2015

After working together on new music, sparks flew between the DJ and singer. Photographed leaving the Golden Globe Awards together, the couple shared snapshots of their relationship on social media, and Zedd visited the Atlanta set of Gomez’s movie, The Fundamentals of Caregiving, posing in a group photo next to the star.
The couple broke up by mid-2015, and fellow DJ and producer Diplo claimed it was a publicity stunt for their new music. Gomez addressed this on The Edge Afternoons, saying Diplo was joking and adding, “I adore Anton [Zedd] a lot, and I definitely had a thing with him, which was nice.”
Niall Horan: 2015

At the end of 2015, love was on the cards for Selena Gomez again, this time with Niall Horan. The One Direction member was first spotted at dinner with Gomez, although sources claimed they were just friends. Then, E! News reported that the couple had been seen kissing at Jenna Dewan’s 35th birthday party.
Although she was spotted liking a long stream of Horan’s Instagram posts and reports continued about the pair making out through December, Gomez always claimed nothing was going on. “Oh my god! No. I love him, I always have. He’s amazing,” she said of the rumors.
Samuel Krost: 2016
Around the same time, Gomez was linked to Fyre Festival booker Samuel Krost, who at the time was a close friend of Gigi Hadid’s and a sales and merchandising executive. Krost and Gomez were seen out together in New York, and then on a group vacation snap on Krost’s Instagram.
However, Gomez never confirmed the romance, repeatedly saying she was single throughout their rumored relationship. Things seemed to be over quickly, but Krost later shared a post on Instagram in August 2016, saying (then deleting), “All you superficial who are just unhappy with your love lives, understand that love is real. Although we have ventured on separate paths, at least I know that love exists. I love you, Sel.”
Charlie Puth: 2016

After collaborating together on “We Don’t Talk Anymore,” rumors flew that Selena Gomez was dating Charlie Puth. Gomez never confirmed this, however Puth later told Billboard, “I don’t kiss and tell, but the only way a song like that can come across as real is if there’s something else going on behind the scenes. And that’s what was happening. Very short-lived, very small, but very impactful.”
Puth went on to say “it really messed me up. I’m trying to put this the best way possible: It wasn’t like I was the only person on her mind. And I think I knew that going in — what I was getting myself into.”
The Weeknd: 2017

Arguably her second-most famous relationship, Selena Gomez dated The Weeknd in 2017. Given he had only recently split from long-time girlfriend Bella Hadid, their relationship raised some eyebrows, but they nonetheless stayed together for almost a year.
First spotted together in January 2017, by April they were sharing photos together on Instagram and then made it red carpet-official by attending the 2017 Met Gala together.
Things soured later in the year, however, and while People reported that their break up was due to distance and conflicting schedules, Gomez did famously reunite with ex Justin Bieber shortly after her break up. Fans speculated that The Weeknd’s song “Call Out My Name” alludes to this, with lyrics such as “Guess I was just another pit stop/’Til you made up your mind/You just wasted my time.”
Justin Bieber: 2017 – 2018
First, they were spotted attending a church service. Then it was all on for Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez once again, as they took tandem bike rides together and kissing in public. This time though, their romance was extremely short-lived – the couple broke up for good in March 2018, and by June, he was officially dating Hailey.
Andrea Iervolino: 2022

If a gorgeous Italian-Canadian film producer invites you to holiday on a yacht in Positano, you go. Well, you definitely do if you’re Selena Gomez, because that’s how her romance with Andrea Iervolino began in 2022.
While once again, Selena Gomez didn’t confirm the rumors – whatever was going on between her and Iervolino was no more than a fling at best.
Drew Taggart: 2022

Later that year, Gomez was linked to The Chainsmokers‘ Drew Taggart. The reports came via Us Weekly, where a source said “They aren’t trying to hide their romance by sneaking around at members only clubs,” and that their relationship was “low key”.
Gomez, however, took to Instagram to shut down the rumors, sharing a post with the hashtag “#iamsingle.”
Zayn Malik: 2023

The internet went into a spin when news broke that Zayn Malik and Selena Gomez had been spotted kissing in New York. As reported by Entertainment Tonight, Malik and Gomez were seen entering a restaurant. They walked in holding hands and were kissing,” an eyewitness said. “Most restaurant staff and restaurant-goers didn’t notice them. It seemed like they were comfortable together and it was clear that it was a date.”
Easily the most controversial romantic link Selena Gomez has had in years, the news comes shortly after the artist was embroiled in a social media situation with Bella Hadid – whose sister Gigi shares a son with Malik.
A source later told Us Weekly that Gigi Hadid is supportive of the rumored relationship. “Gigi has no problem whatsoever with Zayn dating,” the insider stated. “As long as he is happy and stable and continues to be a good coparent to [their daughter] Khai, she’s fine with whoever he goes out with.”
