Selena Gomez has been in the midst of transcending her childhood fame and singer stardom with her SAG Awards-nominated role in the Hulu hit, Only Murders in the Building. As the star approaches her 30th birthday on July 22, she’s fully embracing the next stage of her life and work. In fact, she says she’s “barely touched the surface of what I’m able to do.”

In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Gomez reflected on her carer, which began at 7 years old on Barney and Friends. She went on to star on Disney’s Wizards of Waverly Place, release chart-topping singles and three solo albums. But there was a struggle she faced to be taken seriously as an adult actor. “I felt like it was very difficult for people to take me seriously… I have slowly pushed through that, and I’m really glad, but it was very frustrating. I felt like a joke, you know?”

Now, she’s at a happy place with her age. “I am happy getting older. I find that my toleration for any sort of discomfort, usually disrespect or whatever, even just unnecessary stuff — I feel so glad that it’s not taking over me anymore. My emotions are mine and I am allowed to feel them however I want to feel them.”

And to celebrate the big 3-0 she’s throwing her own bash. “But I am having a party because I was like, ‘You know what? All my friends back home are married with kids, so I’m just gonna throw my own party.'”

The artist stepped out over the weekend for Hulu’s FYC Event in California to celebrate her hit show, Only Murders in the Building, which she stars in alongside Martin Short and Steve Martin. She chose a white poplin Prada mini dress for the occasion with Jimmy Choo sandals, looking like the cool, confident star she is.

We will soon see Gomez, Short, and Martin (our favorite trio) back in action for season 2 of Only Murders in the Building. The first two episodes will be released on Hulu on June 28.
