What happens when two of the most conceptual, art-focused fashion institutions come together? The result, is a surrealist conceptual retail activation within the world’s premier conceptual retail store. I’m talking about Schiaparelli x Dover Street Market! Designed by Artistic Director, Daniel Roseberry—in conjunction with fashion’s go-to production firm Bureau Betak— Dover Street Market host a series of pop-up experiences, in collaboration with the maison. The activations, at Dover’s London, L.A. and NYC outposts, focus on the brand’s Autumn/winter 2021 Collection; from some exceptional denim pieces, parkas and bijoux knitwear, as well as the brand’s highly coveted accessories pieces – handbags, and oversized jewelry. At Dover Street London and Los Angeles, the pop-ups consist of an edit of ready-to-wear creations, while over at DSM New York, the activation is focused more so on the Schiaparelli surrealist jewelry and exclusive accessories—like all the fabulous appendage pieces we’ve come to love from the brand.

The immersive pop-up activations, feature abstract-like mannequins, designed in the spirit of iconic Swizz scultper Alberto Giacometti—a prominent figure of the Paris Surrealism movement—who much like Schiaparelli herself and Roseberry, focused a lot of his sculptural work on the human body. “Schiaparelli—the woman and the Maison she founded—always blurred the lines between art and fashion, between reality and fashion, between abstraction and figuration” says Roseberry via a press release shared with GRAZIA. “Therefore, it felt only right that here, I paid tribute to Elsa Schiaparelli and her inimitable aesthetic with these sculptural display pieces inspired by her, as well as by Alexander Calder and Alberto Giacometti.” Dover street market, founded by Rei Kawakubo and Adrian Joffe, has been at the forefront of re-imagining retail and the shopping experience since it’s conception in 2004; leading the charge on approaching commerce in a holistic. conceptual way.
