After arriving fashionably late to the 2023 Met Gala – so much so that the live red carpet had finished (despite the hosts’ best attempts at stalling) — Rihanna and A$AP Rocky proved good things really do come to those who wait.
The couple, who are pregnant with their second child, walked the red carpet in two very different takes on the night’s theme, “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty.” For her part, Rihanna wore a custom white Valentino figure-hugging gown complete with a dramatic train and a gigantic flower-covered coat. A$AP opted to wear a direct replica of one of the late designer’s famed looks from 2004: a black blazer paired with a red plaid skirt, white button-down and skinny black tie.
But if you thought one Met Gala look would be enough for Rihanna, you’d be wrong. Following the event, the singer changed into an afterparty look, consisting of a cropped jacket to show off her pregnant stomach and a low-rise skirt by Chrome Hearts, both of which were embellished with crosses.
Keeping to her white theme, the entire look was the same colorway, including her sunglasses and the strappy heels she wore on her feet. Amping up the sex appeal, the singer wore the button-up skirt almost completely undone, creating a front slit that reached her mid-thigh and showed off the lace-up heels that went almost knee-length.
Finishing the look with a stack of earrings and multiple necklaces, including one bearing a cross that was so long it reached down past her skirt’s slit. In an ode to Lagerfeld, multiple pearls were seen throughout her jewelry.
Rocky, meanwhile, changed into a long khaki trench coat layered over slouchy blue jeans, a matching button-up shirt and a gray tie.
With her two Met Gala Monday outfits, plus the fur coat she wore as a disguise to head to the event, and the Chanel fluffy minidress she posted the night before, that’s four iconic Rihanna looks in 24 hours.
Thankful to the Met, her stylist, Jahleel Weaver, and, of course, the woman herself for continuing to serve maternity looks that’ll make the history books.
