Meryl Streep all but cemented the fate of florals with four of arguably the most cutting words in The Devil Wears Prada, “Florals, for spring…groundbreaking.” Since 2006, the concept of florals as a new and fresh idea for spring has been a nonstarter in the collective fashion consciousness.

Well leave it to Rihanna to shake things up and prove even Miranda Priestly wrong. In the early hours of Monday morning, Rihanna took to her Instagram to announce that Savage x Fenty’s new drop was all about making florals for spring “savage.” The latest #savagespring collection offers up a plethora of floral printed pieces, ranging from bras and panties to gloves and tights. But in typical Rihanna fashion, her “savage” florals are not your traditional, what you expect florals to be print. The March collection is described as “…taking you on a psychedelic garden trip with Rihanna. The new Free Spirit Floral Collection will have you sprung on spring. It’s Flower Power with a 60’s inspired vintage vibe.” Basically, Rihanna opted to go with less Bridgerton and more Austin Powers.

Naturally, Rihanna herself starred in the campaign along with other models to show off the new collection. She keeps true to the pastoral theme that is associated with florals in the campaign shooting in nature but keeps true to Rihanna irreverence with pieces. And much like her previous collections from Savage x Fenty, these pieces can double as ready-to-wear and most likely will sell out soon.
