Reese Witherspoon‘s daughter, Ava Phillippe, isn’t afraid to get honest with her followers. Case in point: when one person asked her in an Instagram Q&A if she was into boys or girls, she replied, “I’m attracted to … people! (Gender is whatever),” she replied.

At the moment, the star, whose dad is actor Ryan Phillippe, is dating Owen Mahoney — the two met at UC Berkeley — but this is the first time she has been open about her sexuality.

Phillippe, 22, loves to share her life with her fans and wants her social pages to be uplifting and positive. Before posting, she asks herself, “What is that going to mean to somebody else, what does it mean to me? Is this helpful? Is it important? Is it charitable? Is it something I want the world to see from me?”

“I do have a platform of some sort, for sure,” she shared. “I want to be conscious of what I am posting. I might not always get it right but I’m always going to try my best to put good out there.”

Additionally, Phillippe just wants to help others along the way, which is why she may speak up online more often than not. “That gut feeling of, someone might need to hear this. It makes me feel good, in more ways than one, to be able to share and be real with people on social media as much as is possible. We do see a lot of the falsified sides [of people] or the facades, and it’s just not completely true of everyone, and I think a little truth is good sometimes,” she said.

Since Witherspoon has been in the spotlight for a long time, she is grateful that her kids — she also has sons Deacon and Tennesseejust roll with the punches.

“It’s an odd situation because I didn’t grow up famous. So [Ava is] living an experience that I did not have, and so are my sons,” the Legally Blonde star said. “We are lucky enough to have friends who grew up in Hollywood and can help give them advice on how to navigate.”

“Ava is so down-to-earth. She wants to do great things in the world. She’s studying and learning and trying to find herself,” the Morning Show lead gushed of her eldest child. “It’s a big thing in life to try different things and figure out what is really your path.”
