Right now, it feels like celebrity beauty brands are a dime a dozen — but Rare Beauty, the brain child of Selena Gomez, really has some depth to it. Gomez has always been known for her incredible beauty looks, so it made sense when she teamed up with Sephora and LVMH incubator Kendo Brands to co-create a line of feel-good, high-performance makeup.

Despite my overflowing makeup stash, I am not immune to Gomez’s allure — so was VERY excited when Rare Beauty landed on my desk in line with its recent launch into Sephora Australia. Every product looked amazing, but I did find a few were standouts, both in terms of payoff and performance.

So if you’re looking at the Rare Beauty ranging with an impulse to add everything to cart, I’ve done the groundwork and curated 5 of the best.

Rare Beauty Stay Vulnerable Melting Blush, shop now

This blush is creamy, blends incredibly well and leaves the skin looking dewy but not shiny. The little pink compact is super cute, and the mirror means it’s great for on the go touch ups. Fingers work well, but I actually loved buffing it in with a fluffy brush — taking any excess across the bridge of my nose.

Rare Beauty liquid touch weightless foundation, SHOP NOW

Admittedly this looks like a concealer, but it’s a really beautiful, pigmented fluid that works either all over or targeted around the face. It’s creamy and slightly matte, so it looks really natural. Plus, the color range is really comprehensive. I like dotting it around the centre of my face and using my fingers to blend it in.

Rare Beauty positive light liquid luminizer, SHOP NOW

I am usually averse to overly-shimmery highlighters, but the Positive Light formula is so silky it almost becomes one with the skin. The colors are stunning, the applicator is really easy to use and I love that it can be used across multiple areas on the face. Enlighten and Mesmerize are favorite shades of mine.
Rare Beauty Always an optimist illuminating primer, SHOP NOW

This primer is like post-facial skin in a bottle. It’s dewy and really radiant, and creates a soft-focused effect that blurs the look of skin. It’s amazing under tinted moisturizer, or simply on its own. I like a pump in my normal moisturizer to lift my complexion before a day of Zoom calls.

Rare Beauty Liquid Foundation Brush, SHOP NOW

A stellar complexion brush is hard to come by, but this is pretty close to perfect. I love the shape and size — it’s great for creating a natural, skin-like finish and really buffing the product into hard-to-reach spots like around the nose and chin. It doubles as a blush brush, too.
