There’s only about one month left until The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel returns to Amazon Prime Video, and Rachel Brosnahan, who plays the titular character, dropped some little hints as to what viewers can expect.
At the end of season 3, Midge finds herself fired from Shy’s (Leroy McClain) tour, so it’s safe to say she is less than thrilled with her current situation.
“I think there is something about watching her hit this bottom in her life. Her entire life implodes in front of her and all of the dreams that she has for herself and for her family suddenly evaporate,” the actress, 31, told Hoda Kotb on the Today show. “She is forced to pick herself back up and decide whether she wants to wallow and eat ice cream forever or make something new of herself, and she finds her voice in a brand new way — a voice that was always there but in a brand new way.”
Season 4 was delayed due to the ongoing pandemic, and fans are more than ready for the new episodes to drop.
As for why the series is resonating with so many people, Tony Shalhoub, who plays Abe, replied: “As always, with these kinds of things, it’s really all about the timing, and I think the state of the culture right now, people I think were looking for just a little bit of going back into the past and taking a look back, seeing where we were and where we’ve come.”
“But mostly, I think the success of the show is about is Rachel Brosnahan. She is phenomenal and a tremendous leader,” he gushed.
Meanwhile, Brosnahan is happy that the show has taken off, as she adores her job. “Tony is the one who said early on that we’ve all been a part of so many shows that we love and that we have loved being a part of and feel so proud of, but that never really find the kind of audience that we feel like they deserve,” she said. “So, it feels like a little bit of magic and a whole lot of luck that pushed this one to the forefront.”
Additionally, new cast members, including Kelly Bishop, Milo Ventimiglia, John Waters and Jason Alexander, will be showing up, in addition to Brosnahan’s husband, Jason Ralph.
“It was fun to get to show him what I have been up to all day. I missed dinner many, many nights for the last couple of years,” she teased.
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel premieres on Amazon Prime Video on Friday, February 18.
