Britain and peace have a fraught history. Neville Chamberlain’s tenure as Prime Minister looked to a policy of appeasement to dismantle tension, while Winston Churchill assuredly proclaimed there will be “peace for our time”. Fast forward 85 years, and it seems that a stalemate could be brokered, ending seemingly the most public discord between members of the British royal family in recent memory.

Indeed, new reports have emerged claiming King Charles III and Prince Harry will meet in late September for a face-to-face “peace talk”. It’s alleged that Prince Harry’s wife, Meghan Markle, will not be joining ‘the firm’ for the discussions.

As per a royal source speaking to the British tabloid, The Mirror, the Duke of Sussex is set to make a short stop in London on his way home to Montecito, California, following the conclusion of the Invictus Games in Germany. It’s believed that this stopover is seen by the royal family to be an opportune moment for the Prince to connect with his father.

If you’ll recall, Prince Harry made an immediate exit on stage left after his father’s coronation on May 6. The Spare author did not join his family for the coronation weekend festivities, rather spending time with his immediate family and celebrating the fourth birthday of his son, Prince Archie.

Since then, Prince Harry has made several trips back to London, specifically to testify in court as part of a lawsuit against Associated Newspapers. Prince Harry served as one of many high-profile claimants, including Elton John, Elizabeth Hurley and Sadie Frost.

During this visit, sources claimed that Prince Harry was “too busy” to meet with his father, brother, Prince William, or extended family. Could these claims of a “peace talk” quell the strain placed on their relationship?

The Mirror asserts that the face-to-face sit-down could come as soon as September 17. “King Charles is due to return to London from Balmoral in the middle of September which ties in with the end of Harry’s Invictus Games trip to Dusseldorf,” one source reportedly revealed to OK Magazine.

“The King has a rescheduled official visit to France on September 20 so has a few days to spare in London to meet with his son. Staff are trying to fine-tune the details as we speak.”

Aside from Prince Harry’s appearance at the coronation, it’s believed that the 38-year-old hasn’t met with his family to discuss the claims made in his memoir, Netflix docuseries Harry & Meghan, or tell all sit-down interviews.

The peace talks also come after reports of a rocky month between Prince Harry and the Duchess of Sussex, though their upcoming public commitment at the Invictus Game closing ceremony is proof that reports of a strained relationship have zero credence.

Whether there can truly be peace for our time is reliant on the latter. After all, time does heal all wounds.
