Meghan Markle’s choice not to attend the coronation of her father-in-law King Charles III was one of the most controversial parts of the entire affair. After missing the deadline for the RSVP, the Sussexes confirmed Prince Harry, who was sat in the third row at the event in London on May 6th, would attend solo, while Markle would stay home in California with the couple’s two children to celebrate their eldest, Archie’s, birthday. It was later reported she was actually skipping the event to ‘protect her peace.’
Other than the birthday party Markle no doubt threw in the couple’s Monticeto home on Saturday as the royals were at Westminster Abbey, Markle was photographed during the weekend out enjoying the sunshine while hiking with friends.
According to the paparazzi, Markle was hiking for 40 minutes on Sunday morning with her friends Markus Anderson and Heather Dorak, a short distance from her Montecito, California, home. Harry, who flew back to California immediately after Saturday’s coronation ceremony, skipping the Coronation Concert, and who was not pictured interacting with his brother, Prince William, at all, was not with her.
Notably, Markle was photographed wearing some rather significant pieces of jewellery—her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana’s Cartier watch, along with a Bentley & Skinner diamond tennis bracelet, which Charles is reported to have gifted his late ex-wife.
Wearing Victoria Beckham sunglasses, a J.Crew jacket, black leggings, a black tank top, a straw hat, a pink scarf, and blue socks with brown hiking boots, Markle looked every bit her Californian self.
Peace, seemingly, successfully protected.
