Though she may not be the nicest, people are drawn to Emily Cooper’s (Lily Collins) boss Sylvie (Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu) on Netflix’s hit series Emily in Paris.

During season 1, it took quite some time for Sylvie to warm up to the U.S. native, and while they don’t always get along, the boss babe has really taken Emily under her wing.

“It’s really cute,” she said when people have a kind response to the show, adding that she is “really touched” by “young people, 20-year-olds, [who are] interested in Sylvie’s character” and leave “incredible comments on Instagram.”

The French actress is thankful that Sylvie “was written for a younger woman like 35, 40,” and she gets to play the “nasty, but not really” character.

“It’s an opportunity to do things and say things you never do in life because you’re never that French,” she added. “I’m never that French!”

During season 2, viewers find out that Sylvie is married to club owner Laurent G.(Arnaud Binard), and though they aren’t in a committed relationship anymore, they still care for one another.

Instead of having an affair with her client, Antoine Lambert, the marketing guru finds herself head over heels for a photographer named Erik (Søren Bregendal). Erik seems to be falling hard, as he wants to take their relationship to the next level. At first, she doesn’t love the idea, but eventually she comes around to it and even exudes confidence when meeting his younger friends.

“People my age should be freer than we are … being freer and being bolder and having more fun and just live,” Leroy-Beaulieu stated of Sylvie’s lifestyle. “You know how hard it is when you pass 45 or even 40 and people start thinking, ‘Just get out of the scene.’ But there’s so much we can do and transmit. We have a lot to teach the younger girls.”

At the end of the season, we see a different side of Sylvie, as she offers Emily a job, which would mean she would stay in the City of Light.

“Sylvie has a relationship of love and hate — it’s not even hate … It’s tough love for Emily,” she explained. “She’s [been] educating her since the beginning. It’s a mentor relationship. Emily’s going through trials and obstacles that Sylvie’s throwing at her to make her grow. Sylvie really cares for Emily a lot, [but] she will obviously never show it.”

Since season 3 is finally confirmed, we can’t wait to get to know Sylvie even more!
