Nicole Kidman‘s Nine Perfect Strangers will make you rethink attending a wellness retreat. Following a short promo back in April, Hulu has released the official trailer to the thrilling series. If you unashamedly binge watched Big Little Lies and subscribed to Google alerts for season three (to no avail), this could quell your appetite.

Adapted from the novel of the same name and written by Big Little Lies author Liane Moriarty, the eight-part drama follows nine people who take refuge from their daily stresses at a health resort called Tranquillum House. Run by the resort’s director Masha (Kidman), the Russian blonde uses a series of unconventional techniques to reinvigorate the bodies and minds of her guests.

“There’s nothing to fear,” Kidman’s character says in the trailer. “Because this, it’s going to change everything.”

Nine Perfect Strangers was filmed in various location across the east coast of Australia; Byron Bay, Ballina and Sydney. It will also feature an all-star cast including Melissa McCarthy, Luke Evans, Melvin Gregg, Michael Shannon, Asher Keddie, Grace Van Patten, Manny Jacinto, Tiffany Boone, Regina Hall, Bobby Cannavale and Samara Weaving.

The series will also reunite much of the production team from Big Little Lies and features executive producer Bruna Papandrea and creator and executive producer David E. Kelley. Kelley and John Henry Butterworth serve as co-writers and co-showrunners.

The miniseries will arrive on Hulu on August 18.

In the interim, Moriarty’s latest must-read, Apples Never Fall, is available for pre-order. According to the publisher Henry Holt, the novel will “take readers behind the closed doors of a seemingly tranquil suburbia, as Moriarty expertly peels away the layers of a family to reveal heartfelt truths, deeply felt wounds, and moments of humanity with her signature wit and expert observational powers.”

So right up our alley (and a potential winner for a television adaption) in the years to come.

Moriarty was honoured at the G’day USA AAA Gala in 2021 with Kidman paying tribute to the author in a statement.

“Your imagination, your brilliance, your friendship, have been a gift to us and a gift to the world,” Kidman said.
