New fragrances enter the beauty universe every single day, but only a handful are destined to be history-making. But in recent weeks, a handful of houses have released blockbuster scents that are already generating serious hype. From single-original florals to sumptuous woods, below you’ll find an edit of seven big-name perfumes we’re labeling instant classics.

Prada Paradoxe, $142. SHOP NOW

While not the first fragrance from the Italian house, Paradoxe represents a new chapter for Prada Beauty. With the imitable Emma Watson as its face, this breezy floral marries neroli, jasmine, amber and musk molecule; a juxtaposition of feminine accords set upon a warm, woody base. The tilted triangular bottle — a riff on Prada’s signature monogram — is beautiful as well.

Hermes violette volynka eau de parfum, $458. Shop Now

From the exclusive Hermessences collection comes Violette Volynka, a olfactive game of “hide-and-seek” in regard to the opposing notes of violet and leather. Hermès perfumer-creator Christine Nagel is personally a huge fan of the delicate bloom, choosing a specific varietal from Tourrettes-sur-Loup in south-eastern France. The extract is pitted against a buttery leather accord, producing a fragrance that’s both contrasting but perfectly balanced.

Comme des Garçons Copper EDP, $130. SHOP NOW

Comme Des Garçon is known for scented hits like Wonderwood and Concrete, but Copper affords a slick metallic quality wonderfully addictive. The fragrance pairs ginger, tobacco leaf, amber, vanilla and myrrh, giving it a mineral-like finish — almost like the smell of corroding metal that’s been warmed by the sun. It’s not for everyone, but if you crave a unique fragrance it’s sure to blow your mind.

Dior J’ADORE PARFUM D’EAU, $148. SHOP NOW

J’Adore has been a fragrance classic since 1999, but J’Adore Parfum D’eau represents a fresh new direction for the house. Composed of nothing but flowers and water, J’Adore Parfum D’eau is an alcohol free scent that’s lighter and more airy than its predecessor. It still heroes iconic blooms like neroli, jasmine sambac and Chinese magnolia, but the finish is much softer on the skin. And because it’s alcohol free, it’s perfectly safe to spritz on clothing, and through your hair.

CHLOÉ ATELIER DES FLEURS YLANG CANANGA EAU DE PARFUM, $306. SHOP NOW
Atelier Des Fleurs is a new collection from Chloé where every individual scent is reminiscent of a flower, and they can be layered to create a bespoke signature (much like creating a bouquet at the florist). Ylang Cananga Eau de Parfum is warm and bright — while it’s perfectly rounded enough to wear alone, you can pair it with a zesty pick like Magnolia Alba for added freshness.

Editions de Parfums By Frédéric Malle Rose Tonnerre EDP, $270. SHOP NOW

Caveat: this scent has been around for a while, but was recently relaunched as Rose Tonnerre (previously known it as Une Rose). Thankfully, the heady composition is the same: vetiver, patchouli, rose and truffle. While it is rose forward, there’s a depth to it — definitely no fragrance for wall flowers.

Eidesis by Aesop, $195. SHOP NOW

Aesop is making a name for itself as a cult personal fragrance destination, and Eidesis might just be its greatest launch yet. Warm and undeniably woody, it’s a gender-neutral juice that feels like a long walk in the forest.
