Naomi Campbell’s YouTube series No Filter With Naomi has been one of our lockdown obsessions for months and on Tuesday, January 12, the legendary fashion model welcomed Gwyneth Paltrow on as a guest for an epic tête-à-tête. The supermodel opened the gab fest by gushing over the accomplished actress and revealing that the two first met over 20 years ago.

“She’s always  been very humble, very down to earth, very connected to the earth and she was already a fashion icon,” the 50-year-old said in her introduction. “The world got to know her as an incredible actress, but what she’s caring about today is the world, the environment, what we eat, how we take care of ourselves and what keeps us in the realm of well being.”

The mom-of-two blushed in appreciation and the two reminisced about their first proper meeting at the Bowery Bar back in the 90s.

“I grew up reading Vogue and being so obsessed with you and your whole little cohort,” the 48-year-old gushed back. “I remember meeting you for the first time and you don’t know this because you are you and in your body but it’s incredible —  the height, the radiance, the gorgeousness — I was like ‘this person is not real.'”

Valentino : Front Row - Paris Fashion Week - Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2019/2020
Naomi Campbell, designer Valentino Garavaglia and Gwyneth Paltrow attend the Valentino Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2019 2020 show as part of Paris Fashion Week.

Both iconic women are notoriously health conscious and they dove right into that subject matter. While Campbell touched on her own swimming and Thai Chi practices, Paltrow talked about the origins of her health and fitness journey.

“I found yoga when I was about 25,” she said. “It was an ashtanga yoga practice which you are meant to do six days a week. It was the first exercise I ever found. It was my entree into exercise and getting strong and feeling [like] staring was a constant daily thing. The benefits of having experience every day on most days of the week made me feel so good. Now that I’m 48, I don’t kill myself with super high intensity everyday, sometimes I just talk a walk.”

Saying that the Goop CEO and Founder has “redefined women’s health to another level,” the model brought up how Paltrow has become a go-to-figure when it comes to wellness, particularly in a year unlike any other.

“It’s a crazy time but I think it’s been wonderful to actually see how many have become curious about how to take better care of themselves and how to feel more balanced  — mentally, spiritually, emotionally,” the Shakespeare In Love actress said of the pandemic. “This has forced so many of us to be quiet and introspective, to tune into our bodies in a way we haven’t normally.

“I think we will look back and one of the silver linings of this time is that we all tuned in a little and take care of ourselves better.”

“We’ve come to live in this culture where it’s cool to work yourself to death and cool to be exhausted,” Paltrow continued. “People wear it as a badge of honor, I know I certainly did. When this all started I thought to myself, ‘Are we supposed to be driving ourselves this hard?’ I just don’t think I’ll go back to that way of living again. I’m loving being more sedentary and more quiet.”

Clearly Paltrow’s new mind set is doing her body good as Campbell flashed the image of the blonde’s recent naked selfie.

“Me trying to get a naked selfie by myself is so ridiculous,” the Glee alum laughed saying the provocative photo was a way to promote her brand’s new body butter product. “I did the timer thing. I put it on a ledge. Most of them were really bad.”

Despite her undeniable body-confidence and Oscar winning charm, the actress admits she’s actually pretty shy.

“I think this is something I learned later in life but I’ve actually not been that comfortable being a public person,” she said. “Even though I’ve done it for so long, there’s a part of me that really feels shy and doesn’t feel like I’m naturally an extrovert like that. When you are acting, you convince yourself you are someone else so you can inhabit their qualities. You don’t have to be yourself and you don’t feel as exposed in that way.”

Other fun moments during the YouTube one-on-one included Campbell admitting she gave up smoking as her New Year’s resolution. Paltrow, shocked by Campbell’s admission, promoted her new Goop Genes products including her sold-out lip balm and face oil. She also teased a new Goop vertical that will be coming soon, which she describes as “something to do with food” but remains mum on the details.

Campbell launched her passion project YouTube series back in the spring amid the COVID-19 global pandemic sharing “intimate conversations” with some of her closest friends in the worlds of fashion, media, film, and music. Her inaugural guest was Cindy Crawford, while subsequent guests ranged from Marc Jacobs, Adut Akech, and Christy Turlington to Ashley Graham, Cameron Diaz, and Nicole Richie.
