Overnight in Paris, Maison Margiela Creative Director, John Galliano, debuted SS20 Artisanal – a haute couture collection that was largely fashioned from secondhand fabrics and unstructured finishes (deft stitching, asymmetrical hems and rough tailoring). It was quintessentially Margiela – a fantastic display of the weird and the wonderful.

The drama certainly extended beyond the clothes, with Pat McGrath employing the power of every shade imaginable to paint a rainbow of lipstick looks. The spectrum ranged from sherbert orange to lime green, electric yellow to deep plum. The finish was soft, powdery almost; as if it would crumble should you purse your lips too hard.
And the calling card of McGrath is of course, perfect skin, so luminosity was also seen backstage in spades. McGrath typically layers sheer foundation with slick, glossy highlighter for a skin finish that’s so dewy it’s almost damp.
Eugene Souleiman completed the iconic backstage duo, crafting the perfect wet-look undone twist to sit beneath a very interesting, very Galliano headpiece.
