Emmy Award-winning actress Julia Garner stepped out to appear on Jimmy Kimmel Live! rocking a quintessentially ‘80s Madonna chop after the news came out that she’s set to star as the icon in the upcoming Madonna biopic. Donning her blonde tresses straight and pinned back at bob-length, the actress sported a pale lemon yellow Prada minidress embellished with a crystal belt and Chanel ballerina flats outside of the venue before changing into beige pointy-toe pumps.

According to Variety, Garner was offered the role of Madonna for the pop icon’s upcoming biopic over other high-profile candidates like Don’t Worry Darling’s Florence Pugh, Euphoria’s Alexa Demie, and Odessa Young.

Taking control of her own story, Madonna will be at the helm of her own biopic, co-writing and directing the forthcoming film. Backed by Universal Pictures, the Queen of Pop is taking the directorial reins and writing the “untold story of Madonna as an artist, a musician and a dancer who tries to make her way in this world,” alongside Academy Award-winner Diablo Cody, the screenwriter behind cult-followed films like Juno and Jennifer’s Body. Among the team of producers is Little Women producer and Academy Award nominee Amy Pascal.

“I want to convey the incredible journey that life has taken me on as an artist, a musician, a dancer–a human being, trying to make her way in this world,” Madonna said in a statement. “The focus of this film will always be music. Music has kept me going and art has kept me alive. There are so many untold and inspiring stories and who better to tell it than me. It’s essential to share the roller coaster ride of my life with my voice and vision.”

Madonna teased script sessions with Cody via Instagram back in 2020, asking followers in the caption, “Are you ready for the story of my life…Am I?” She divulged, “I keep forgetting that I’m writing about myself. I can’t make this s**t up! But in fact, I don’t need to. The truth will set you free and (can) also be devastating!”

During her interview guest host Dana Carvey, Garner kept the conversation about her roles in Netflix’s Inventing Anna as Anna Delvey and Ozark as Ruth Langmore, without a mention of the biopic. But the film is still in pre-production, so watch this space for more details to come.
