May 24, 2021: Normally, having a black tongue would result in a visit to the emergency room (or, at the very least, a deep dive into WebMD) but not for Machine Gun Kelly. At last night’s Billboard Music Awards, the 31-year-old singer surprised fans by dying his tongue before hitting the carpet. It was a curious decision that left the performer’s 8.3 million Instagram followers—and the entire GRAZIA staff—both fascinated and concerned.

Kelly accepted the award for Best Rock Album at the ceremony and walked the red carpet with girlfriend Megan Fox, who also decided to shock the masses (I mean, Megan Fox in Mugler is enough to send me to an early grave). But undoubtedly, the most shocking part of both of their looks combined was Kelly’s black tongue, which he showed off first on Instagram, calling it a “special accessory.” What’s even more astonishing is that Kelly and Fox served up their requisite PDA on the carpet (these two want us to know they are very into each other), and yet, not a single drop of black dye transferred from Kelly to Fox. What kind of sorcery?

The wizard who gave Kelly his black tongue has yet to be identified—trust us, we tried—nor has the magic black substance applied to Kelly’s tongue. We do, however, know how it was applied: via a Q-tip, as seen in a video posted to Instagram. We can’t wait to see how long this lasts and if the songwriter ever tells us why he was inspired to make a statement of this nature. For a similar look, we implore you to relive your childhood by getting your hands on a Slurpee, stat. Pretty please don’t attempt this look by any other means.

More to come as we learn more about Kelly’s mysterious tongue dye.
