Breaking into the music industry when your mom is the bona fide Queen of Pop is one feat, then differentiating yourself from her is another conquest. Madonna’s first-born, 26-year-old daughter Lourdes Leon, who goes by Lola, has done just that with her first EP, Go.

The famous face previously made her mark in modeling, working for brands such as Burberry, Marc Jacobs, Rihanna’s Savage X Fenty, Mugler, Calvin Klein, and Marine Serre. She records under the moniker Lolahol (pronounced Lola hole), and dropped her first single, “Lock&Key” this August.

Earlier this month, the dancer, choreographer, and now singer released her five-track EP, executive produced by experimental pop artist Eartheater’s (the musician formerly known as Alexandra Drewchin) Chemical X.

In a new interview, Leon told The Cut the album’s timing worked well for her, “otherwise, I might start to think about it too much, and then I might start to hate it.”

Drawing influence from 1990s British alternative rock bands from Portishead, Goldie, and Massive Attack’s Tricky, Leon describes her the EP’s tone as “groovy, sad, sexy, but ‘I’ll still f*** you up.'”

Leon told the publication, she’d never release her own record. “I have such a high standard for visuals, audio, character, humor, style — everything,” she says. “Because that’s what I’ve been exposed to my whole life.”

The daughter of Madonna and celebrity personal trainer-turned actor, Carlos Leon, the blossoming songstress said, “I want to feel like I deserve things and not just like I’ve been given things.” She continued, “And, yes, there’s undeniable privilege that I’d be stupid to not realize. Nepotism babies are pretty awful usually, and my mom and my father raised me to be so much smarter than that.”

Over Halloween weekend, Leon traveled to the Cayman Islands where she performed her debut single live. We can’t wait to see where her music career takes her next.
