January 4, 2020: Now that it’s officially the new year, we’re looking towards the future with a newfound sense of hope and positivity in the wake of such a harrowing year. To fuel our childlike optimism that’s been buried for so long due to the devastating coronavirus pandemic, Louis Vuitton dropped a delightful collaborative collection with Swiss Conceptual artist Urs Fischer officially available online and in stores as of January 1.
Fischer reworked the Louis Vuitton signature logo for the collection, creating a hand-drawn version present across the line. Available in two colorways—black and red and black and white—shoppers can embrace the playful design in the form of leather goods, ready-to-wear, shoes, and accessories. “I thought about how the Monogram has become omnipresent in people’s lives,” Fischer says. “And given the Louis Vuitton Monogram’s ubiquitous status, I chose to hand-draw it in a really spontaneous way, almost like sketching it from memory.”
To accompany the collection, Fischer created characters that will give you a hearty dose of childhood nostalgia: giant avocados, sunny-side-up eggs, cats sleeping on bananas, and more. Those who are as in love with the childlike creations as we are can scoop up the LV x UF Square in Multicolor. New Yorkers can even experience the collection (and its accompanying sculptures) in-store at its SoHo collection, which essentially doubles as an art installation.
This isn’t Fischer’s first time working with Louis Vuitton. In July 2019, he created his own version of the Taurillon Capucines BB bag as part of its Artycapucines collection. He opted for a sleek white leather canvas featuring six hanging mini, hand-painted fruit and vegetable sculptures.
