Forget Emily In Paris, it’s all about Lily Collins in Washington D.C.!
On Wednesday, January 20, the Netflix actress got patriotic on the gram, celebrating the presidential inauguration of Joe Biden. In honor of the historic day, the 31-year-old posted a cool candid throwback photo from when she covered Barack Obama’s inauguration for Nickelodeon in January 2009.
“Happy Inauguration Day!” she captioned the photo. “This is me at @barackobama’s inauguration in 2009 when I was reporting on the big day for Nickelodeon. It was freezing (hence being bundled up in emergency blankets!), but nothing was going to stop me from embracing such a monumental moment. Even at 18, I really felt the weight of that day – what it meant for us as a country and I was so excited to be there. Today is no different. I am beyond thrilled to see a new administration — President @joebiden and Vice President @kamalaharris — take office and start paving the way towards a brighter future. Hopeful that this is the beginning of some very good and necessary change….”
The comment section of the photo, which featured the brunette beauty trying to stay warm in the below-freeing temps in a silver foil blanket, Valentine print fleece blanket, and trapper hat, immediately lit up with compliments, including one from her Emily In Paris costars.
“If << comfort >> was a picture…” wrote Lucas Bravo, while Ashley Park commented “also need these foils on set,” along with three heart-eye emojis.
This wasn’t the first time Collins reminisced about her time working on Nickelodeon’s Kids Pick the President series during the 2008 U.S. election. Back in September, she posted a shot of her then 18-year-old self next to a ballot box to celebrate National Voter Registration Day. In July, she posted another throwback of herself reporting from the 2008 Democratic National Convention in Denver.
Throughout the 2020 presidential election, the newly-engaged actress has used her social media platform to encourage voter turn out and show her support for Biden and Kamala Harris, who just became the first woman, first Black person, and first South East Asian American sworn in as Vice President of The United States.
This year, Keke Palmer hosted Our White House: An Inaugural Celebration for Young Americans, a special Inauguration Day program made for kids. The live streamed special featured commentary from historians and special segments about presidential pets and trivia questions from Vice President-elect Harris’ husband, Doug Emhoff, produced by Nickelodeon.
