Fans can always count on Kristin Cavallari to keep it real, and in a new interview, she gave an update on her love life, specifically, how she feels now after her divorce from ex-husband Jay Cutler in 2020.

“I mean, you know, I’m so sick honestly of talking about my divorce, but it was a huge turning point for me,” Cavallari said on the She Pivots the Podcast by Emily Tisch Sussman. “And it was not a decision that I made overnight. But it’s been the best decision I’ve ever made for myself.”

The couple, who wed in 2013, share three children, sons Camden, 9, Jaxon, 8, and daughter Saylor, 6, and she shared how she’s approaching the new dynamic with them. “It’s sad, you know, it’s sad to not have that [a family] anymore,” she continued. “I actually had this conversation with my kids two days ago. You know, it’s okay to be sad, I get sad about it sometimes still. But I had to do what was best for me and for my kids. Because I want my kids to see me happy. And I think I’m a better mom now because I’m happier.”

Now, she says she’s in a “more peaceful place” after doing “a lot” of “soul searching.” Adding, “I just feel like my whole world has kind of opened up in the last few years.”

She’s also ready to get back out in the dating world after waiting a year after her divorce. “I just recently started dating more in the last couple months but I took a lot of time and I really worked through everything.”

These days, she’s also starting a new chapter in her professional life, with her new podcast, “Back to the Beach With Kristin and Stephen” which she hosts alongside her Laguna Beach co-star, Stephen Colletti.

She recently told GRAZIA USA that she was “a little hesitant” to jump on board at first. “I had to sit on it for a while, but I’m really happy that I did it and it worked out with my schedule. It’s been amazing all around. I knew it would be fun, but it’s been even more fun that I ever thought it would be. I’m really happy Stephen asked me to do with him.”

“It has been the most enjoyable experience,” she gushed. “I can do the podcasts in my workout clothes and no makeup from my house, so it’s been a dream job. It’s talking about something that I love, and we essentially pull the curtain back on each episode. We do not hold back! We really go into what filming was like and how viewers didn’t see what the editing process was like. It’s been really therapeutic in a lot of ways.”

Now that she’s looking back on her time on the show, she told She Pivots, she’s owning everything she portrayed on the series. “I was 100% that villain back in the day and I’m okay with that now,” she shared. “I decided if I was going to do it, I had to be all in and I had to embrace this character that they wanted me to play. And I looked at it as a job.”

She does have moments she isn’t “proud” of, but she knows they shaped who she is today. “There’s things that I’m like, oh, you know, I wish I could maybe take that back, but it helps define who we are. And so I’m thankful for my journey.”
