Kerry Washington has teamed up with global skincare giant Neutrogena to executive produce a powerful documentary about the dangers of the sun. The feature-length documentary, titled In The Sun, is set to follow seven families who are dealing with the deadly consequences of prolonged sun exposure. It aims to send a message to the public about the indiscriminate nature of skin cancer, and the importance of protection from harmful UV rays.

While the concept mightn’t sound super compelling to some, the documentary has been nominated for a host of awards and recently scooped up an award for the best environmental short documentary at the Seattle Film Festival. Washington serves as a Creative Consultant for Neutrogena Studios, a new content-led arm of the brand that aims to provide education on important topics. The actress posted the first trailer for In The Sun to her Instagram, thanking one of its principal subjects, Dr Shirley Chi, for sharing her patient’s heart-wrenching stories.

“Soooooo excited to share the “In the Sun” with you all!!!! As executive producer and proud @Neutrogena Creative Consultant I am so proud of the way this film brings awareness to the importance of skin health, and celebrates the beauty of ALL of our skin,” Washington wrote in the caption of her post. “No matter the shade. No matter the color. No matter the age… I hope it impacts you all as much as it impacted me.”

The Scandal star told Variety that she was excited about her creative role with the heritage skincare brand. “I started working with Neutrogena because I knew it was a company that put health on the same level as beauty—and Neutrogena Studios is exact proof of that,” she told the publication.  “In the Sun is both powerful and empowering, a testament to the impact that real stories, shot from a diverse range of perspectives, can have on inspiring necessary health outcomes. I’m really looking forward to sharing the film with everyone and seeing future projects coming out of Neutrogena Studios.”
