It’s no secret BFF’s Kendall Jenner and Bella Hadid love (read: have an obsession with) the nineties. Not a day goes by without Jenner or Hadid sporting some kind of 90s-inflected fashion. There have been upturned bucket hats, Carrie Bradshaw-inspired naked dresses, thong heels and baguette bags. There has even been a dalliance with the decade following, questionable noughties style in the form of low-riding parachute pants, crop tops and those ridiculous Matrix-esque sunglasses.

While doing the fashion week rounds in New York and London, the best friends have stepped out in two huge footwear trends of the nineties: Converse and Doc Martens.

A footwear fixture of the punkish alt-nineties, Docs were all the rage amongst angsty teens, with Hadid wearing hers just like the kids of the era; pairing the shoe with black leather, a pink ribbed crop and choker. Trailing just behind while out in Manhattan, Jenner stepped out in a similar chunky black shoe, nostalgic in it sensibility with a stacked tread and “ugly” bent.

Then after a quick dash to London, Jenner was seen shopping at Louis Vuitton before heading to a Burberry fitting wearing a pair of black Cons. After the punk rock bands of the 80s turned the former basketball-only shoe into a fashion statement, all the cool kids started wearing Converse (particularly the black version) throughout the 90s, pairing the laced sneaker with mini dresses, flip skirts and washed denim.

The nostalgic footwear is just another example of the 90s style juggernaut that plows through fashion’s highest circles, with Bella Hadid and Kendall Jenner its major proponents.
