Even Katie Holmes isn’t impervious to the hysteria surrounding Bottega Veneta. The actress wore a pair of the brand’s banana yellow quilted mules yesterday, while out and about in her native New York City. Holmes, who has unexpectedly emerged as a fashion icon in the last 12 months, paired the sandals (a favorite among the Instagram influencer crowd) with a so-called ‘Canadian tuxedo’—denim jeans with a denim shirt.

The so-called ‘New Bottega’ effect has taken off in the two years since Céline alum Daniel Lee took over as the storied Italian fashion house’s creative director. Lee’s footwear in particular has become a favorite of in-the-know fashion insiders, beloved by everyone from Julia Sarr-Jamois to Pernille Teisbaek and Rosie-Huntington Whiteley. And according to Lyst, Bottega’s hype hasn’t dulled one drop during lockdown—in fact, e-commerce sales have tripled since the beginning of the year.

Katie Holmes’ quarantine outfits have been well documented by the press, particularly so since the news of her romance with restaurateur Emilio Vitolo Jr. broke. Holmes was first linked to Vitolo in September, when it was reported that the 33-year-old had left his live-in fiancée for the actress. The ensuing media storm has seen the pair’s every move documented by the paparazzi—something that must be annoying for the couple, but is a treat for us fashion savants who revel in Holmes curated, minimal style.
