Though news of their romance erupted under slightly controversial circumstances, Katie Holmes’ relationship with Emilio Vitolo Jr. is proving, at the very least, a true sartorial delight. The duo, who have been photographed together non-stop in the last month, have a knack for co-ordinating tonal ensembles—a byproduct perhaps of being in the throes of a “teenage-like” love affair.
Holmes, who has been back on the fashion industry’s radar since her truly iconic Khaite ‘bra-digan’ moment last August, has embraced a heady mix of cult-y accessories—including Gucci loafers and sneakers—and classic wardrobe staples like men’s tailored shirting, crisp white tees and wide-leg checked trousers. This morning, the pair were spotted taking the subway together in New York City, with Holmes wearing an asymmetrical cut-out ribbed cardigan, white linen trousers and white leather lace-up flats.
Vitolo is a chef at Emilio’s Ballato in Soho, a restaurant owned by his father, Emilio Vitolo Sr., and co-run by Emilio, his parents and his two brothers. Food has featured prominently in his and Holmes’ relationship, with the pair often photographed at Ballato, and at various other culinary hotspots around the city.
Their romance—first revealed in September—courted backlash as it was revealed Vitolo was living with and engaged to his long-term girlfriend, designer Rachel Emmons, when he and Holmes began dating. However, that hasn’t appeared to dampen the pairs’ spirits—they have been holding hands and kissing passionately all over New York, in direct sight of the paparazzi, for weeks now.
