At the inaugural Earthshot Prize in London at the weekend, guests were asked to wear a recycled look on the green carpet. Kate Middleton certainly understood the assignment and chose to revisit a lilac goddess gown by Alexander McQueen which she first wore for the BAFTA Awards in summer 2011.

The gown saw subtle updates, with a gold belt embellished belt (it previously featured a diamanté encrusted detail) while the silhouette appears to be more fitted for her 2021 appearance. Prince William opted for a green velvet blazer which he repeated from a 2019 charity gala, a black turtleneck top and black pants.

The Duchess of Cambridge has always had an affinity for rewearing her pieces which are also regularly high-street brands like Zara. Just last week she revisited a vibrant green Erdem coat which she debuted as a dress in New Zealand during 2014.

Elsewhere, Emma Watson made a rare red carpet appearance and wore a custom Oxfam tulle dress which was recycled from ten different gowns.

The Earthshot Prize which was initially founded in 2018, is funded by the Duke of Cambridge’s Royal Foundation. It will be awarded annually from 2021 to 2030 and honor five winner whose solutions substantially help the environment. In a speech during the evening, Prince William urged particularly young people to assist in repairing the planet.

“I want to say something to the young watching tonight,” he said onstage at Alexandra Palace, where the event was being held. “For too long, we haven’t done enough to protect the planet for your future, the Earthshot is for you. In the next 10 years, we are going to act. We are going to find solutions to repair our planet. Please keep learning, keep demanding change, and don’t give up hope. We will rise to these challenges.”

Middleton added, “For too long, we have neglected our wild spaces. And now we are facing a number of tipping points. If we don’t act now, we will permanently destabilize our planet. And we will rob our children of the future they deserve.”

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge recently attended the James Bond No Time To Die premiere where Middleton wore a dazzling sequin-clad cape gown by designer Jenny Packham.
