Julia Roberts has been generating buzz for her upcoming rom-com with George Clooney (you may remember that she joked it would probably “be terrible“). As fans get ready to welcome her back to her rom-com roots, the actress is already at work on her next project — this time starring alongside other industry titans, Denzel Washington and Ethan Hawke.
On Monday, Roberts was spotted on the beaches of Long Island filming her new movie, Leave the World Behind. The actress was looking beach-casual in a perfect pair of denim cutoffs, a breezy tunic, wide-brim sun hat and flip flops in-hand.
According to Deadline, the upcoming thriller is based on the 2020 book of the same name by Rumaan Alam (which was a 2020 National Book Awards finalist). The story two families on a long weekend gone terribly wrong and examines parenthood, race and class. Mr. Robot creator Sam Esmail is directing, while Hawke plays Roberts’ husband.
While fans are going to have to wait a beat for the thriller to hit Netflix, her rom-com film with Clooney, Ticket to Paradise, is set to hit theaters in October 2022.
Even though Roberts jokingly warned fans that she thinks it is “probably going to be terrible,” we can’t imagine that’s true. Especially not with a track record of iconic films like Pretty Woman, Notting Hill, My Best Friend’s Wedding — we could go on.
