If you remember back in August, there was news circulating that Jessica Simpson’s fashion brand, the Jessica Simpson Collection, co-owned by mother Tina Simpson, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection under its parent company, Sequential Brands Group Inc. Since then, Jessica and Tina have been working towards gaining back full rights to the company, and now, they’ve been successful.

But first, let’s brief you on how we got to this point in the story. In 2015, when the Jessica Simpson Collection was owned by Camuto Group, Camuto bought out a majority share of the company, leaving Jessica and Tina with a minority stake at 37.5%. But the same year, Sequential Brands Group bought out Camuto’s majority share, leaving the fate of the company up in the air until the bankruptcy declaration. Up until this point, there has been little news on this front, but we can now confirm that Jessica and Tina are back in full control of the company.

“It means the absolute world to me to be able to take over complete ownership of my brand,” Jessica Simpson said in a Footwear News cover story. “After 16 years in business I feel ready to meet this next exciting phase with open arms. I know the sky is the limit when my mom, our incredible team and I lock into our customers completely.”

Tina Simpson also weighed in on the news, as the co-founder of the brand, there’s just as much at stake for her as there is for Jessica.

“For all of our hard-working, talented, amazing licensing partners, to know Jessica is at the helm gives them strength and belief in the future,” Tina said. “For Jessica to regain control of her namesake brand, it allows her and I, alongside our amazing team, licensing and retail partners to build the legacy brand to carry on to her children and family.”
