This season, Hellessy is all about building a curated wardrobe. Through the use of sets — intended to be mixed and matched — embellished denim (there’s a denim jacket with embellished pearl buttons and intentional, deconstructed shoulder cut-outs that is truly stunning), plus a focus on the blouse and easy dressing that’s intentional, the collection aims to reflect the current times. “Our woman is just ready to go out and dress up but she’s not not fully transitioning to a suit or something very dressy right away,” designer Sylvie Millstein tells GRAZIA. “I think she’s not ready to step out of her comfort just yet and that’s what I’m offering—this easy, laid back you know effortless elegance.”
“This collection was designed with our woman in mind. I’m really focusing on her, her mood and what what she would like to wear right now” Millstein said, virtually walking us through the collection guiding us along the design story for the season. This is a collection that meets the Hellessy customer where they are. After a year of being regulated to our homes, comfort is a big takeaway. Millstein has addressed this through the use of elevated easy dressing. Take for instance, this grey, embellished knit set with a camisole/attached cardigan combo (meant to convey a draped over the shoulder moment) with accompanying knit joggers that exudes effortless elegance. This is the running through-line of the Resort 2022 collection.
Millstein has put intention into every single detail of the collection, providing the Hellessy woman with a selection of thoughtful options to pair back to prior seasons, take her from day to night, easy yet elegant dressing for the office — or home office — and of course, everyday wear. There’s also a focus on convertible garments. Like a luscious pair of silver, vegan-leather metallic pants with a removable skirt. “You can go for a dramatic effect with the skirt, then you can remove it and attach it differently on the side,” Millstein said. “So, lots of different ways to wear the pieces that I design.” Also, this season, Millstein introduced new pops of color to the Hellessy universe, saying: “I think my woman is ready for color again.” There’s these beautiful aqua and tangerine colorways that flow into the collection beautifully alongside the primarily black and neutral palette.
This season perfectly continues the signature effortless yet elegant dressing that’s become synonymous with the brand. Last season Millstein paid delicate attention to the climate of the world, with a focus on cozy knitwear using upcycled materials and this season she’s helping her woman prepare for life post-pandemic — with impeccably chic trousers, blouses and joggers.
