Harry Styles has had a long and memorable fashion partnership with Gucci’s creative director Alessandro Michele, regularly wearing the brand on the carpet, on stage and everywhere in between. Now, the two have come together to create more iconic fashion moments with their new collection, Gucci HA HA HA.

According to the brand, the new collection “represents the landing place of an inventive two-person journey” and “the synthesis of a friendship” between Michele and Styles. You may remember Michele tapped the star for the brand’s 2018 campaign and the duo walked the Met Gala red carpet together in 2019 (above).

As the name of the collection suggests, the idea “self-generated” from “amusement” and ended with actual tangible products (that will be out in October) — but it also has deeper roots. The name is also a fusion of both of the stars’ first initials and refers to the laughing face emoji they would each leave at the end of messages to one another.

During one of their phone calls, Michele came up with the idea on collaborating on a “dream wardrobe” that included a “a mix of aesthetics from 1970s pop and bohemian to the revision of the image of the gentleman in an overturned memory of men’s tailoring,” Michele said in a release from the brand.

That resulted in making items that “eliminate the ritual complexities of fashion collections,” and instead create clothing that produces the “sustainable spontaneity of ease.”

“Harry has an incredible sense of fashion,” Michele said in the release. “Observing his ability to combine items of clothing in a way that is out of the ordinary compared to the required standards of taste and common sense and the homogenization of appearance, I came to understand that the styling of a look is a generator of differences and of powers, as are his reactions to the designs I have created for him, which he has always made his own; these reactions restore me with a rush of freedom every time.”

While Michele says the collection is “banal in its simplicity, and it’s an act of love,” he and Styles paid close attention to the details and fabrics used. “It was a lighthearted activity and easy with this kind of relationship. But the result is serious,” WWD reported.

In photos released by the brand, the collection includes a suit in a whimsical lamb and cherry-covered print, there’s also a flared-leg suit (a silhouette that Styles regularly sports), and red and white checkered pieces covered in blue hearts and squirrels.
