Billie Eilish may finally have a sartorial answer to the hypothetical question she posed in her award-nominated single from Barbie. If the 22-year-old’s latest social media post is anything to go by, we’d contend that Eilish was made to be the 1965 “Poodle Parade” Barbie at the 66th Grammy Awards.

In anticipation of the upcoming 2024 Grammys red carpet and ceremony, the Happier Than Ever songstress took to Instagram to tease her celebratory ensemble—a look taken straight out of Margot Robbie’s press tour wardrobe by Eilish’s life-sized replication of a vintage Barbie silhouette. The devil works hard by Andrew Mukumal works harder.

Yet, when Eilish arrived on the red carpet, the star opted to emulate another fictional mid-century icon: the ‘Pink Ladies’ from Grease. Taking to the step and repeat, Eilish cut a casual figure in oversized tailored trousers and a half-buttoned varsity jacket. The piece featured contrasting pink sleeves and Barbieinspired motifs like a coat hanger, sunglasses and purse embroidered into the front.

Of course, given that “What Was I Made For?” was written for a theatrical release, Eilish did have a plot twist up her sleeve. Later in the ceremony, Eilish changed into her “Poodle Parade” dress to perform the “Song Of The Year” winner.  Eilish was the first of the Barbie cast outside of Robbie to duplicate an exact silicon silhouette worn by the fictional fashion doll. Similar to the toy, she donned an olive green scoop neck tunic dress, matching stilettos and a checkerboard duster coat with a pastel pink trim.

The key lime spin on Barbiecore is the exact fashion spectacle we expect from a red carpeted event—especially since Eilish has eschewed any conventional plastic silhouettes in favour of her androgynous, Y2K “Bratz” inspired aesthetic.

Given Eillish’s prowess as a beauty chameleon, the songstress may have paid homage to her signature green-and-black hairdo from her breakout era in this new phase of her career. (Though we here at GRAZIA were hoping for an act of rebellion by going back to stereotypical Barbie blonde à la her 50s flipped ponytail from her “What Was I Made For?” music video.)

Billie, you were clearly made to be a Barbie.
