Emily in Paris is known for the colorful and amazing outfits, but we need to take a moment to talk about the makeup as well.

“In Season 2, Emily’s makeup is still natural glam with a little more French style,” Aurélie Payen, who is Lily Collins‘ makeup artist on set, told Bustle. “I further spotlight the subtle French art of revealing and enhancing the glow of natural beauty.”

Payen was inspired by Audrey Hepburn and Brigitte Bardot‘s previous looks, meaning glowing skin and bold red lips.

As for what look Payen loved the most, she replied, “Definitely the Versailles look. “With [hairstylist] Mike Desir, we were inspired by the Renaissance era with a little more modern twist.”

During the season 2 finale, Emily’s firm held a fashion show at the Palace of Versailles.

“When I found out we were shooting at Versailles, my response was ‘Oh great so now so next season we’re going to the moon?’ But no truly, to me there’s nothing more opulent and grand and special — and wow — than Versailles,” Collins gushed. “Our beautiful sets, it really felt like a dream.”

Payen also had a lot of fun playing around with Ashley Park‘s character, Mindy Chen, and Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu’s Sylvie Grateau. “Her beauty looks — [which are] very pop and colorful — perfectly reflect her creativity and optimism,” she said of the former. “I love the daring looks and colored tones [that are] faithful to her radiant and very fun character.”

She added, “[Sylvie] assumes her age and feels pretty by keeping natural,” she says. “I truly believe in the natural beauty of individuals and, through my work, I always try to promote a standard of beauty that is more diverse, closer to everyday reality, for whom Sylvie is the perfect example.”

Recently, Collins, 32, revealed which garb she gravitated toward the most.

“It’s so hard because Emily is obsessed with fashion,” Collins said on Daily Pop on January 4. “I love this outfit I wore for my birthday party which was this little mini dress with a big pink bow, because I felt Emily thought it was a bit of a present to herself.”
