News to few, model Emily Ratajkowski is expecting her first child with husband, Sebastian Bear-McClard. The 29-year-old announced her pregnancy to her 27.1 million followers this past October with a maternity shoot and an accompanying essay she penned on gender identity. When asked about the gender of their child, she writes, “We like to respond that we won’t know the gender until our child is 18 and that they’ll let us know then.”
In the same way that the London native confidently shares her views on gender identity, she’s also transparent about the beautiful, confusing, and complicated journey that is pregnancy. In a recent video filmed by Tom Newton with luxury French haircare brand, Kérastase, Ratajkowski opened up about what she’s learned about motherhood so far—and what fears still keep her up at night.
“You have to learn to just throw all expectations out of the window, and just let go; just sort of take each day at a time because every woman is different.”
Like many moms-to-be, the model worries about hair loss. “One of the things I am a little scared of is hair fall,” Ratajkowski says in the video. Hair loss is a common post-partum symptom that affects many women, caused by changes in hormone levels. To reduce natural hair fall, the brand ambassador has been using the Kérastase Genesis haircare line, which claims to strengthen strands from the roots.
EmRata adds that “smells can really go one way or the other” for her during pregnancy. Nevertheless, she thinks Kérastase Genesis “smells really good.” The brand describes the line’s scent as “full of youth and positivity,” containing top notes of bergamot zest, cedar, and lime, with a foundation of aromatic herbs and a touch of floral notes.
