It is safe to say we’ve had Elton John and Dua Lipa‘s collaborative track “Cold Heart” on repeat since it was released last month. Now it appears the single was just a prelude to the artist’s forthcoming album. Taking to Instagram, John announced all the details for The Lockdown Sessions, that as the name suggests, is a collection of songs that were written in lockdown.

In March 2020 Elton was forced to pause his record breaking Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour due to the pandemic. Self-isolation opened the opportunity to work on new music with other artists, virtually.

“The last thing I expected to do during lockdown was make an album. But, as the pandemic went on, one‐off projects kept cropping up,” John wrote on social media. “I’ve ended with a selection of really interesting and diverse stuff that was completely different to anything I’m known for, stuff that took me out of my comfort zone into completely new territory.”

Wearing a Gucci polo shirt and rose-tinted glasses (we’d expect nothing less from the ’60s rock star) John announced 16 tracks would be featured. 10 of those are unreleased. Collaborators include Dua Lipa, Nicki Minaj, Miley Cyrus, Young Thug, Charlie Puth, Lil Nas X, Stevie Wonder and Stevie Nicks.

Lipa and John’s new track will be the first song on the album. Speaking on the experience behind creating the track, Lipa said in a press release, “Elton is such an inspirational artist and also has the naughtiest sense of humor – a perfect combination. It has been an absolute honor and privilege to collaborate on this track with him.”

John returned the love saying, “She’s given me so much energy. She’s a truly wonderful artist, and person, absolutely bursting with creativity and ideas.”

Lockdown Sessions will drop on streaming platforms from October 22. Mark your calendars!
