While on vacation in Mexico with boyfriend, Anwar Hadid, some might say that Dua Lipa has been “feeling herself.” The 25-year-old singer has been posing for photos with sunkissed skin and beautifully wind-blown hair, with the perfect vacation wardrobe to go along with it. Her latest outfit is a sexy little cutout green plaid frock from the Dolls Kill x Yung Reaper collection—and sadly, the exact dress is sold out. She teamed the number with silver 90s-inspired barrettes to match the dress’s sparkly embellishments. Everything about the look makes us want to book a flight to paradise.

If you take a few seconds to scroll through the comments, it’s clear that her 59 million Instagram followers think she’s a “cutie,” a “queen,” a “god,” and the list of objectifying adjectives goes on. That’s not to say that we’re not guilty of it too. I admit that the first time I came across this image of Lipa, I internally screamed and stared at the screen for minutes on end. The girl looks great!

In a Rolling Stone interview published on Thursday, January 14, the interviewer touched on a conversation that she and Lipa had. During their talk, the writer suggested to Lipa that her beauty might have “a certain power.” After thinking about that comment for a few days, the London native got back on the phone for another interview, making it clear that her beauty and success are independent of one another.

“I’ve been thinking about it almost every day, and I was just a little bit taken aback,” Lipa told the interviewer. “I’ve never really seen being pretty or beautiful as some kind of power. It’s never been something that I identify with, and — with no disrespect to you, obviously — I feel like I was a little bit shortchanged in a way because I don’t feel like I’ve gotten to where I am because of that. I’m extremely hardworking and driven, and I feel like that’s the reason why I got to where I am, through my hard work and my drive, and I just wanted to make that clear because it has been playing on my mind.”

As mere spectators to Lipa’s life, this is important information for us to know. That includes those in the comments with lots more to say about her body than the positive energy she exudes through the photograph. You can only imagine the comments on a photo snapped a few days prior: the “Levitating” singer gave the exposed g-string thong trend a try, posing for a series of photos in an open-back Mônot gown, with a Savage x Fenty g-string. In the accompanying caption, she dropped a single heart emoji.

“My music, a lot of it is what I hope. I hope to empower women,” she continued in the interview. “Those [words] don’t immediately come from something that I believe,” she continues. “It’s more that I start off with a false sense of confidence, and then the more I sing it, the more I perform it, the more I put it out into the world, the more I feel like I live it, breathe it, embody those lyrics and those words.”
