The sun is out, COVID-19 vaccines are aplenty, and New Yorkers like myself are eager to escape the confinement of their cozy (tiny) apartments. Summer plans are still debatable in terms of whether or not we’ll be able to travel to all of our favorite beaches. Nevertheless, I’m staying hopeful and manifesting a vacation-filled summer by adding to my wardrobe. Currently, my sights are on Kim Jones’ 2021 beachwear capsule collection, which couldn’t be more perfect for spring-summer dressing.
The luxury fashion house’s latest lineup epically blends vintage, sportswear, high fashion, and casual aesthetics all in one, which lends itself to the perfect garments for anywhere and everywhere your travels take you this spring and summer. Luxe garments run the gamut from casual-cool cotton T-shirts to over-the-top (yet fabulous) bathrobes in Dior’s signature Oblique pattern. The coolest part of the collection? Some of Jones’ new pieces incorporate interdisciplinary artist Kenny Scharf’s famous Viva Mare Viva Mar painting, which takes the form of swim trunks, polo shirts, and accessories.
The collection’s oversized, breathable material is ideal for all summer settings to keep you cool and comfortable, whether you’re able to get to the actual beach or not. Garments are accompanied by functional and stylish accessories like a beach bag, sandals (the Dior Atlas is *finally* available in white), and one of my personal favorites: a stainless steel bottle that comes with a calfskin bottle holder that will easily elevate your pool- or ocean-side fashion moment this summer.
My current daydream goes as follows: I’m laying out on Dior’s new terrycloth beach towel, donning a pair of the label’s swim trunks paired with oversized square sunnies. The gentle sounds of ocean waves bring me peace (not the honking and other unrecognizable city sounds that are my reality), and the view is so picturesque, it calls for a bottle of champagne (unlike the White Claws currently lining the inside of my fridge). A guy can dream, right?
